Carolyn A. Berry, Ph.D., is the director for research and evaluation at the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS). In this position, she oversees research and evaluation design for all CHCS programs in disparities reduction and care management for Medicaid beneficiaries. Her primary focus areas include CHCS' Rethinking Care Program and the Reducing Disparities at the Practice Site initiative.
Prior to joining CHCS, Dr. Berry served for eight years as an associate research professor at New York University's Wagner School, where her research and program evaluation activities centered on the health and health care of low-income children and families. In addition to holding her academic post, Dr. Berry served as deputy director for the Center for Health and Public Service Research. In that role, she led a five-year study for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences that examined racial/ethnic disparities in childhood asthma, and conducted an outcome evaluation of the SchoolFood Plus Initiative, a program designed to enhance the nutrition of children in the NYC public schools. In addition, she participated in the national evaluation of "Expecting Success," a demonstration funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to address disparities in cardiac care at 10 hospitals across the country. Dr. Berry also served as the principal investigator for the evaluation of the Assuring Better Child Health and Development initiative, a project funded by The Commonwealth Fund to expand child development services to low-income children through Medicaid.
Dr. Berry holds a Ph.D. in community psychology from New York University and master's and bachelor's degrees in psychology from Wake Forest University.
