Preventive Care

Many children enrolled in Medicaid and SCHIP do not receive complete immunizations and routine developmental and related screenings. Teens, in particular, often face access barriers to necessary health care services. CHCS resources provide strategies for states and health plans to reduce access barriers and improve preventive care for children and adolescents.

EPSDT at 40: Modernizing a Pediatric Health Policy to Reflect a Changing Health Care System

This report examines the continuing role of EPSDT benefits in Medicaid including information about the flexibility provided by the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) and detailing state practices in implementing EPSDT benefits within managed care arrangements. It also duscusses findings of an expert workgroup convened to identify promising approaches for modernizing EPSDT.

Early Child Development Services Can Nip Problems in the Bud

Through participation in the Enhancing Child Development Services in Medicaid Managed Care BCAP workgroup, CommunityCARE of Louisiana, the state's primary care case management program, increased the number of provider referrals for 0-3-year-olds identified with a developmental delay. The plan established developmental monitoring office programs and expanded the number of acceptable tools that providers can use for ages one to six.
