As the prospect and promise of meaningful health care reform become increasingly tangible, the Center for Health Care Strategies joins a group of nationally known experts on Medicaid and health quality in signing an Open Letter that calls upon our nation’s leaders and health policy decision makers to recognize the foundation that Medicaid can provide for high-quality health care. The letter calls upon the new Administration and Congress, in collaboration with state governments and philanthropies, to invest in Medicaid and show the nation how to deliver more effective care to its citizens, especially children with special needs, adults with multiple chronic conditions, and the frail elderly.
The proposed strategy would build on substantial progress made in recent years on quality improvement, performance measures, and health information technology. Key elements include:
- Federal-state leadership and support;
- A national Medicaid performance and quality reporting system; and
- Effectiveness research on health care for Medicaid’s enrollees.
