Esposito D, Taylor EF, Gold M. "Using Qualitative and Quantitative Methods to Evaluate Small-Scale Disease Management Pilot Programs." Population Health Management February 2009, Vol. 12, No. 1: 3-15.

This article by Mathematica Policy Research published in Population Health Management describes a multi-method approach for evaluating interventions that were implemented as part of CHCS' Medicaid Value Program. The interventions were designed to improve the quality of care for Medicaid beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions. Evaluators from Mathematica used a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze each intervention. Quantitative data included both process measures, such as case manager contacts, and outcome measures, such as hospital use. Qualitative information was collected through interviews and logic models were developed to document the intervention activities.
