State-based Medicaid accountable care organizations (ACOs) are becoming increasingly prevalent, with more states pursuing this model as a way to align provider and payer incentives to focus on value instead of volume. ACOs offer promising potential for improving patient outcomes and controlling costs by shifting accountability for risk and quality to providers.
