Across the U.S., individuals who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid often receive care that is inefficient and difficult to navigate because of limited coordination between the two programs. Over the last decade, several states have developed integrated Medicare-Medicaid programs using a variety of models, yet only about 12 percent of full-benefit dual-eligible individuals were enrolled in some type of integrated care program in 2020.

In this Arnold Ventures blog post, Nancy Archibald, MHA, MBA, Associate Director of Integrated Care at CHCS, profiles Indiana’s plans to launch Medicaid managed long-term services and supports in 2024, under which a majority of participants are expected to be dually eligible individuals. The state is receiving grant funding through Advancing Medicare & Medicaid Integration, an Arnold Ventures initiative developed in partnership with CHCS that is helping states fill resource gaps in designing and launching integrated care programs.
