Jennie Chavis, LSW, MPH is a program associate at the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS). In this role, she supports projects related to payment and delivery system reform and initiatives aimed at improving and expanding quality of care for people with complex needs. Jennie’s projects include supporting the California Health Care and Homelessness Learning Community, a statewide initiative that brings together stakeholders from across California to learn about innovative approaches to improve health care for people experiencing homelessness, and the Rhode Island Accountable Entities Technical Assistance Program, an initiative that supports Rhode Island’s design and implementation of accountable care organizations.
Prior to joining CHCS, Jennie completed her social work training at New York State Psychiatric Institute where she provided therapeutic support and coordinated care to people with severe mental health comorbidities, and at Community Service Society where she provided case management for people living in East Harlem’s public housing facilities. She also served as a graduate fellow at Global Healthy Living Foundation where she managed policy and advocacy-related initiatives for people living with chronic illness. Prior to Jennie’ graduate school training, she worked at Columbia University Medical Center as a clinical research coordinator, where she supported interdisciplinary teams managing clinical trials related to Hepatitis C and liver disease.
In addition to her work at CHCS, Jennie serves as a licensed social worker in a private psychotherapy practice treating children, adolescents, and young adults in individual and group settings.
Jennie holds a master’s degree in social work with a clinical health and mental health care specialization from Columbia University School of Social Work and a master’s in public health with a concentration in health policy and management from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lafayette College.
Outside of work, Jennie enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and running, spending time with family, and catching up her on favorite Netflix shows.
