A capacity-building framework supported the development of community-based palliative care services for adults in several rural communities.

Background

People in rural areas, including older adults, are less likely to have access to palliative care; yet, they are more likely to have chronic conditions and higher mortality than their urban peers. This observational study shared the experiences of using a capacity-building framework to implement community-based palliative care services with teams in rural North Dakota, Washington State, and Wisconsin.
