Racial bias — both conscious and unconscious — is deeply embedded in the health care system. Building patient-provider trust by addressing providers’ biases is critical to achieving high quality, patient-centered care and better supporting patients of color.
This tool aims to help providers better understand the impact of their own bias and to better serve patients and families of color. It also includes a handout for patients and families on preparing for medical appointments, which can support effective engagement with providers.
The tool is a product of Accelerating Child Health Transformation, a national initiative led by the Center for Health Care Strategies with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that seeks to accelerate the adoption of key elements necessary to advance family-centered pediatric practice.
