Empowering CHCS staff to explore creative solutions to improve Medicaid care delivery.

The Catalyst Fund at the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) invests in staff-generated, creative solutions to inform future innovative program development — supporting more effective, efficient, and equitable care for people served by Medicaid. The Fund is made possible through a generous gift from MacKenzie Scott.

Examples of projects pursued under the Fund, include:

  • Investigating Medicaid Policies to Advance Queer and Trans Health (IMPAQT). Identified opportunities to provide technical assistance, training, and resource development to support Medicaid policymakers in advancing LGBTQ+ health equity for beneficiaries. See related brief, blog post, and infographic.
  • Identifying Opportunities to Improve Tribal Health Through Medicaid. Supporting Medicaid efforts to enhance health care services and improve outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native people. See related blog post, profile, and policy cheat sheet.
  • Medicaid Opportunities to Address Postpartum Maternal Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders. Identified opportunities to promote evidence-based, person-centered care and supportive policies for pregnant and postpartum Medicaid members with mental health disorders and substance use disorders by conducting a literature review and interviews with stakeholders nationally. See related report and webinar.

The goal of the Fund is to lay a solid foundation for promising and innovative future initiatives that CHCS can pursue in collaboration with philanthropic, state, health plan, and provider partners.
