States are increasingly looking for practical ways to better align Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Title V maternal and child health programs to improve coordination and outcomes for pregnant people, children, youth, and families. Establishing durable, cross‑agency partnerships — backed by clear agreements, sustainable financing strategies, and meaningful family and community engagement — is essential for effective alignment.
The Center for Maternal and Child Health Medicaid Partnerships (CMMP) brings together state Medicaid, CHIP, and Title V programs to advance maternal and child health. Led by Altarum in partnership with the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS), Family Voices, and the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, CMMP provides individualized technical assistance and peer learning opportunities to state and territorial teams to strengthen cross-agency collaboration. CMMP is currently supporting seven states and territories. Over 12 months, the teams are working to identify cross-agency priorities, develop action plans aligned with these priorities, and work toward implementing strategies to improve maternal and child health.
Since 2024, CMMP has provided in-depth technical assistance to 12 state and territorial teams. The initial cohort included American Samoa, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington State.
