The federal Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program — authorized through the 2025 budget reconciliation bill (H.R. 1, now P.L. 119-21) — will allocate $50 billion over five years to competitively selected states to improve health care access, quality, and outcomes in rural areas. To achieve these goals, states will need innovative approaches to overcome long-standing barriers to high-quality health care in these communities.
This series of tip sheets from the Center for Health Care Strategies explores how states can use Medicaid innovations to improve care delivery, strengthen access, build workforce capacity, and promote long-term sustainability in rural communities. These resources can help states shape their RHT Program applications and guide other health care stakeholders in identifying novel strategies to improve care for rural populations.
