Michael Canonico is the associate director of digital content and strategy at the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS). In this role, Michael oversees publication and content production, creative design, website development, and social media strategy. Michael also leads program communications for CHCS initiatives focused on advancing Medicare and Medicaid integration, improving managed long-term services and supports, and promoting value-based care in Medicaid.
Previously, Michael was a product marketing director at ActiveHealth Management (an Aetna subsidiary) where he led business-to-business and consumer marketing for ActiveHealth’s portfolio of population health solutions, including clinical decision support, disease management, and wellness coaching. Michael also served as a product communications manager at Optum, where he supported client and consumer communications for Optum’s suite of digital population health solutions, including the company’s health assessment, wellness coaching, and incentives platform.
Prior to joining Optum, Michael was a communications officer at CHCS, where he supported a range of communications operations and program communications activities. Michael began his career as an outreach worker at a community health center that provided health care services for individuals with low incomes and those without insurance.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from Ramapo College of New Jersey.
When not working, Michael spends his time gardening, drawing, and studying astronomy and cosmology (a career path he might have chosen if it didn’t require so much math). He is also an avid weightlifter, enjoys period dramas, and watches an awful lot of PBS.
