Under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) 6|18 Initiative, the New York State Department of Health’s Office of Health Insurance Programs and the Division of Family Health worked to reduce the state’s unintended pregnancy rate by increasing access to and utilization of effective or highly effective contraceptive methods — most notably, long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), which include intrauterine devices and implants.
