Older adults are increasingly experiencing housing instability and homelessness, with many living on fixed incomes and struggling to keep up with rising housing costs. At the same time, only a small share of homes are accessible to people with mobility or functional limitations and housing assistance is often limited, leaving many older adults at risk of poor health and loss of housing.

In a West Health Mosaic blog post, CHCS senior program officer, Torshira Moffett, MPH, explores how states can use multisector plans for aging to better align housing, health, and social services to support older adults. It highlights strategies states can use to prevent homelessness and promote housing stability for older adults, such as expanding affordable and accessible housing options, leveraging Medicaid Section 1115 demonstrations to address health-related needs, and strengthening cross-agency partnerships.
