Under its CalAIM initiative to transform Medicaid services, California includes 14 optional Community Supports to address health-related social needs. This webinar featured a community-based organization in Kern County, California, and their partnership with a local Medicaid managed care plan to offer three Community Supports services to Medi-Cal members: personal care and homemaker, respite, and asthma remediation services.
Personal care and homemaker services include house cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, and support with activities of daily living, such as, bathing, grooming, and paramedical services. Respite services are provided to caregivers of members who require intermittent temporary supervision. And asthma remediation removes asthma triggers from the home through air purifiers, ventilation improvements, and mold and pest removal, among other interventions.
Panelists explored how they built their partnerships, and increased access to these in-home supports. Lessons included building trust, developing payment models, and gaining leadership buy-in.
